Beach Jewelry: Dos and Don’ts

As the weather warms up, it's time to head to the beach for some much-needed sun, sea, and sand.

But before you go, make sure to pack the right accessories to complete your summer look. Beach jewelry is a must-have for any fashion-forward ocean lover, but there are some dos and don'ts to remember.

Do choose durable materials

Choose jewelry made out of durable materials that can withstand the elements. Solid gold, sterling silver, titanium and platinum pieces are perfect for the beach because they can be restored back to life even if damaged by the sun, salt, or sand.

Don't wear anything too expensive

When you’re having fun in the sun, it’s not the time to flaunt your most expensive pieces. We know you want to look good, but it's not worth the risk of losing them in the sand or ocean. Keep your engagement ring and other expensive jewelry at home, and instead, choose affordable pieces that won't break your heart to lose. You can still look fabulous without breaking the bank.

Do consider the jewelry setting

When choosing summer jewelry, go for the bezel, flush or simple prong settings, which secure the gemstones in place more than other settings.

Do remove your jewelry when in water and applying sunscreen

Hard water and chemicals can leave a film behind the gem, hard to reach areas of the jewelry and the metalware  which may affect its sparkle and luster. Best to strut them while strolling at the beach as they can get caught in your lifejacket or swimsuit or, worse, get lost in the open water.

Don’t forget your tan lines!

Heavy, chunky or block type jewelry will definitely leave their mark (in the worst way) on your skin in the form of odd, jewelry-shaped tan lines. Instead, go for thin chains, delicate, snug-fitting rings, and small jewel stud earrings that you can wear close to your skin and that will move with you.

Do store your jewelry properly

When you're not rocking your shiny beach accessories, give them some TLC by keeping them in a dry, well-ventilated spot. Store them in a Ziplock bag with an anti-tarnish tab; thanks to the oxidation, it’s a one-way ticket to tarnish town. We suggest you stash them in a cute jewelry box or pouch so they stay safe.

Soak in the Sun with Beach Jewelry!

The right beach jewelry can elevate your summer ootd to the next level. Just remember that less is more, and durability is key. Don’t forget the sunblock (and the tan lines), and make sure you keep your precious gems safely when not in use.

With these do’s and dont’s in mind, you'll stay stylish, safe and sparkly in the sun with your favorite beach jewelry
